Big Aunt Ida was named for her big heart, and cooking up the most fabulous recipes! One of those recipes was her face scrub that she made from ground coffee beans. I've modified Big Aunt Ida's scrub a bit, keeping her basic recipe, and adding alpha hydroxy acid. This scrub is sure to improve the appearance of your skin by removing dead skin cells, increasing the synthesis of mucopolysaccharides and collagen, and skin thickness (which gives a more youthful appearance). The addition of coffee, which is a cell detoxifier, helps speed up cell metabolism and smooths the skin. Use on face and any other areas where you want to remove dead skin cells or cellulite.

Recommended usage: one week a month or once a week regularly. Please specify in the comments section when ordering how you like your "coffee": Dark Roast, Medium Roast, or Light Roast.

Used correctly, alpha hydroxy acids do not increase sun sensitivity. Sun sensitivity occurs when skin is irritated and inflammation occurs. Those with very fair coloring are especially susceptible to this since their skin tends to be more sensitive. Use of a non-irritating AHA such as mandelic acid, lactic acid, or gluconic acid will help one avoid this problem. Some, such as gluconolactone, malic acid, and tartaric acid actually have natural antioxidant properties that will help protect against free radical damage caused by the sun.

Sensitive Skin

The pH of this product is 4-5, which is considered safe for sensitive skin. A lower pH (below 3.5) has a much higher probability of causing irritation in the skin. I do recommend that individuals with sensitive do a "patch test" before using regularly, which means applying the product to a patch of skin and testing for any reaction before using over a larger area.
